Financial Times: Huq Data Reveals European Travel Recovery

In today’s Financial Times, European Economics reporter Valentina Romei and Data Visualisation journalist John Burn-Murdoch reveal how an overall plateau in economic activity points to headwinds for the region. Among other datasources including Google, OpenTable and Refinitiv, the FT uses data from Huq’s European Travel Monitor to reflect how international travel across ten countries is recovering from the effects of Covid-19.

Visitors from overseas present across countries located in the south of Europe have seen activity rebound to varying degrees, with Spain recovering 57% of seasonal losses. Industrial centres such as Benelux and Germany also demonstrate significant rises in transit from overseas residents. The UK however remains at just 23% of annual levels, which is the lowest across the comparative set.

Huq’s Indicators help analysts better understand what the recovery from Covid-19 looks like.
