Weekly Wrap: UK Retail Footfall Insights: Week Ending January 4, 2025
Huq Industries’ latest footfall data reveals nuanced trends in UK retail centre visitation for the week ending January 4, 2025. The data, encompassing over 2,700 retail centres, highlights regional variations in footfall, dwell time, and weekday visitation patterns. Notably, the South East and London regions have shown significant week-on-week increases in average daily footfall, with figures rising by 24% and nearly 50% respectively. This contrasts with a more mixed picture in other regions such as the North West and Scotland, where footfall has declined year-on-year.

Dwell time, which measures the average length of a visit, also varied significantly across regions. The South West and Northern Ireland experienced substantial increases in average visit dwell time year-on-year, with rises of 31.6% and an impressive 81.1% respectively. Conversely, the North East saw a significant reduction in dwell time, dropping 25.2% compared to the previous year.
Weekday visitation shares, indicating the proportion of visits occurring on working weekdays, also showed interesting trends. The East of England and Scotland saw notable increases in their weekday visitation shares over the last 12 months, however, regions like the North East and South West experienced declines.
