Huq platform overview video: a visitor heat map

The overview shows how the Huq platform works: draw any area on the Explore map, read its foot traffic and visitor behavior, and save it to Projects. For tourism data, look at how a district or attraction is drawn as an area and how residents versus visitors, international visitation and dwell time appear for it. Monthly PDF location reports then give partners and funders a ready summary.

  • Residents vs visitors: separates local traffic from people traveling in, so you can measure the visitor economy itself.
  • International visitation: shows the share of visits from abroad and how it moves through the season.
  • Monthly PDF location reports: KPIs, trends against regional and national benchmarks, weekday patterns and dwell time, ready for boards and funders.

What is tourism data?

Tourism data is any information that describes how people travel to and use a destination: arrivals, visitor numbers, where visitors come from, how long they stay and how all of that changes through the year. Official statistics cover some of it, usually at state or national level and months after the fact.

Destination marketers, downtown and main street managers and attractions need something closer to the ground. They want to know how many people came to a specific place, whether they were residents or visitors from further away, how many traveled from abroad and whether a festival or campaign made a difference.

Huq provides that visitor layer for any area you define: weekly visits, residents versus visitors, international visitation, visitor origin, dwell time and visit frequency. It does not track hotel stays, so pair it with lodging data where you need it.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I get tourism data for my city or town?

Official sources publish arrivals and visitor statistics at state or national level. For a specific downtown, main street or attraction, Huq measures visits to any area you define across the US, with weekly trends, visitor origin, residents versus visitors and international visitation.

How do destinations measure visitor numbers?

Traditional methods include counters, ticket sales and surveys, which usually cover single sites or single days. Huq measures visits across a whole area without hardware, so you can count visitors to a district, park or event site and compare them week by week.

How do you measure the impact of an event on visitation?

Compare visits during the event with the weeks before and after, and look at where visitors came from. At London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Huq measured a 28% uplift in foot traffic over the 2024 MLB weekend, using exactly this kind of before-and-after comparison.

What's in the free visitor insights report?

We analyze one destination, district or attraction you define. You get weekly visitor volumes, residents versus visitors, international visitation, visitor origin and dwell time, plus a comparison with a similar area, and we walk you through the results. There's no cost and no commitment.

How often is the visitor data updated?

Huq data updates weekly. You can follow visits through the season, see the effect of an event soon after it ends and report progress to partners and funders without waiting for annual statistics.

Which places can Huq measure?
