Pedestrian flow analysis for a main street or downtown starts with a simple question: how many people are there, and when? Huq gives you pedestrian traffic data for any US street, district or center by week, month and year, with peak hours, visiting versus passing traffic, footfall density and how people arrive. Huq manually validates more than 1,000 locations in each of its 35 markets twice a year. Start with a free analysis of one street or district.

The overview shows the Huq platform: drawing any area on the Explore map, reading its metrics and saving it to Projects. For pedestrian flow analysis, look at the heat maps, which split visiting from passing traffic and show where footfall concentrates, and at how a street or district is drawn as its own area. Monthly PDF location reports then package the numbers for boards, members and funders.

Pedestrian flow analysis studies how many people move through a place on foot, when and where. The term covers two different jobs. Engineers and architects use it to model crowds with simulation tools, sizing stations, venues and sidewalks for capacity and safety. That is a separate discipline, and Huq does not do crowd simulation.
The other job is measuring pedestrian traffic: how many people visit a main street, downtown district or shopping center, at which hours, and how that changes over time. Downtown associations, business improvement districts, city teams, landlords and retailers use pedestrian count data to track recovery, judge events and support leasing or opening decisions.
That has usually meant manual counts or sensors fixed at a few points. Huq provides pedestrian traffic data for any address, updated weekly, with history by week, month and year. Density heat maps show where foot traffic concentrates, and transportation mode shows how people arrive.
01
Total and average daily foot traffic, with trends and year-over-year change for the street or district.
02
Traffic by time of day and weekday, including evenings, so you can plan staffing, events and opening hours.
03
Heat maps show where foot traffic concentrates and split people who stop from those passing through.
04
How people arrive, so you can plan parking, transit links and walking routes around real demand.
A sample analysis for one downtown district. Each view answers a question that boards, members and tenants regularly ask.
01
See whether traffic on the street is growing or falling, and how this year compares with last, week by week.
02
The heatmap shows when the street is busiest, including evenings, which helps time events, deliveries and opening hours.
03
Comparing with similar districts separates a local problem from a wider trend, the evidence funders and tenants want to see.

City transportation teams and downtown associations sometimes publish counts, but often only for a few points or dates. Huq provides weekly pedestrian traffic data for any US street, district or center, with history, so you can analyze the places you care about without commissioning a count.
It depends on what you need to cover. Manual counts are cheap but cover set days. Fixed sensors or cameras give continuous counts at specific points but need installing. Huq gives weekly pedestrian traffic estimates for any address without hardware, with density and transportation mode, which makes it practical to cover a whole district and compare it with others.
Not quite. Crowd simulation models how people would move through a planned space, such as a station or stadium, to test capacity and safety. Pedestrian traffic analysis measures how many people actually visit a place over time. Huq does the second, not engineering simulation.
Choose one US street, downtown district or shopping center. We send a sample analysis with pedestrian traffic by week and month, peak hours and days, footfall density, year-over-year change and a comparison with a similar district. It is free, with no sensors to install.
Weekly. New weeks are added to the history, so you can track the effect of events, road work, openings or seasonal changes and report trends to your board or members without waiting for the next manual count.
Any address across the US, including main streets, downtown districts, shopping centers and individual stores. Huq works in 35 markets and manually validates more than 1,000 locations in each market twice a year. Because no hardware is needed, you can measure your own district and the districts you benchmark against on the same basis.
