Dwell time retail data tells you how long people stay at a store, and visit frequency tells you how often they come back. Huq measures both for any US address, with no cameras or sensors, alongside time of day and visiting versus passing traffic. So you can compare your stores with competitors, not just with themselves. Huq manually validates more than 1,000 locations in each of its 35 markets twice a year. Start with a free analysis of one store.

The overview walks through the Huq platform: the Explore map, the metrics each area returns and Projects for tracking many stores. For retail dwell time, look at the behavior metrics, where dwell time sits next to visit frequency, time of day and visiting versus passing traffic. Heat maps on the Explore map show where people stop and where they pass through, and every view exports to CSV, Excel or a monthly PDF report.

Dwell time in retail is how long a visitor stays at a location. Visit frequency is how often the same visitors come back. Together they show the quality of foot traffic, not just the quantity. A busy street can still be a weak location if most people walk past or leave within minutes.
There are two kinds of dwell time data. In-store systems use cameras and sensors to measure time spent at an aisle, display or checkout. Location data measures time spent at the store, center or street as a whole.
Huq does the second. It measures how long people stay at a location and how often they return, at any address. It does not measure in-aisle dwell or queue times. Because it needs no hardware, you can compare your stores with competitors' stores and nearby locations on the same basis.

Dwell time is how long a visitor stays in one place. In retail it can mean time at a whole store, center or street, or time at an aisle or display inside a store. Huq measures the first kind for any US address, with no cameras or sensors. For in-aisle or queue times, you need in-store hardware.
For each visit, dwell time is the time between arriving and leaving. Average it across visits for a period, and look at the spread too, because a few long stays can skew the mean. Huq calculates dwell time at the location level, alongside visit frequency, so you can compare your stores with competitors on the same basis.
Longer stays usually give visitors more time to browse and buy, so dwell time is a useful sign of location quality. A busy store can still underperform if most people leave quickly or never return. Reading dwell time and visit frequency next to foot traffic shows whether visitors are stopping or just passing through.
We analyze one store or location and the competitors or nearby sites you choose. You get dwell time, visit frequency, weekly visit trends and a day and week part view, and we walk you through the results. There's no cost and no commitment.
Huq data updates weekly. You can see how dwell time and visit frequency respond to a remodel, a new neighbor or a promotion week by week, instead of waiting for a quarterly report.
