Retail real estate data should show how a property performs, not just what its lease says. Huq measures weekly foot traffic, residents versus visitors, catchment, dwell time and cross-shopping at shopping centers, retail strips and main streets across the US. Landlords use it in leasing, investors in due diligence and brokers in tenant pitches, alongside the comps and rent data they already rely on.

Huq platform overview video: a visitor heat map

This short video tours the Huq platform. Watch for the shopping center and retail center layers on the Explore map and how foot traffic, catchment and behavior appear for any center you select. For retail real estate data, the same steps give landlords, investors and brokers performance evidence to set next to leases and comps.

  • Residents vs visitors and catchment: show prospective tenants who lives nearby, who travels in and from how far.
  • Brand locations and industry performance: see which brands trade near a center and how their categories are performing.
  • Exports and PDF reports: drop CSV, Excel or monthly PDF location reports straight into leasing packs and due diligence.

What is retail real estate data?

Retail real estate data is the information used to judge, lease, buy and value shopping centers, retail strips, stores and main street property. It includes property records, lease comps, achieved rents, occupancy, tenant lists and co-tenancy.

Retail differs from office or industrial property because performance depends on visitors. A center's rent and value follow how many people come, how often, how long they stay and which other stores they visit.

Huq provides that performance layer. It measures visits at any address every week, shows where visitors come from, how far they travel and which other locations they visit, and benchmarks a property against centers of the same type. Brand locations and industry performance show how tenant categories are doing. Geo-spend is available in selected markets. It complements your lease and transaction data.

What a retail real estate data report shows

A sample performance snapshot for one retail property against its closest competitor.

Center performance vs closest competitor

01

Center performance vs closest competitor

Weekly visits at the property and its nearest competing center, with year-over-year change, so you can see whether it is gaining or losing share.

Where shoppers come from

02

Where shoppers come from

The areas that send visitors to the center. Brokers use this to show tenants the customers they would reach.

Cross-shopping with other locations

03

Cross-shopping with other locations

Which other locations your visitors also go to. Strong overlap with a brand's existing stores can make the case for bringing that brand into the center.

Frequently asked questions

What is retail real estate?

Retail real estate is property used to sell goods and services to consumers: enclosed malls, open-air and strip centers, power centers, standalone stores and main street units. Its value depends heavily on visitors, because tenant sales drive rents and occupancy. That's why landlords and investors look at foot traffic alongside leases and comps.

How do you evaluate a retail real estate investment?

Start with lease and transaction data: rents, comps, occupancy and the tenant list. Then add performance data: weekly foot traffic, residents versus visitors, catchment, dwell time and how the property compares with competing centers of the same type. Huq provides the performance side for any US address, so you can test the story in the offering memo.

How accurate is retail foot traffic data?

Ask any provider how they validate. Huq manually validates more than 1,000 locations in each of its 35 markets twice a year. In Huq's own US validation study, its visit data tracked Walmart's quarterly US net sales with a 0.85 correlation and 3.8% error. In Great Britain, Huq's accuracy is 81.9%, against an industry benchmark of around 65%.

What's in the free retail real estate data report?

A performance snapshot for one retail property against its closest competitor: weekly foot traffic trend, where visitors come from and cross-shopping with other locations. It's a quick way to see how Huq's data would support your leasing, investment or brokerage work.

How often is retail property data updated?

Huq data is updated weekly. You can track a center through a leasing campaign, a refurbishment or a new anchor opening, and compare each week with the same period last year.

Which US retail properties does Huq cover?

Any retail address across the US: enclosed malls, open-air and strip centers, power centers and main street units. No sensors, cameras or hardware are needed, so you can measure competing centers and properties you are considering buying. Huq manually validates more than 1,000 locations in each of its 35 markets twice a year.
