Mall analytics shows how your shopping center performs as a destination: how many people visit, how many are local residents, where visitors come from, how long they stay and which other centers they also visit. Huq measures this for any US center with no sensors, so competing malls are measured the same way as yours. Data updates weekly. Huq platform overview video: a visitor heat map

This short video gives an overview of the Huq platform. Watch for the Explore map layers, including shopping centers and retail centers, and how foot traffic, catchment and behavior appear for any area you select. For mall analytics, the same steps run on your center, on competing centers and on the tenants you want to attract.

  • Shopping center layer: select your center or a rival on the Explore map to see weekly visits and visiting versus passing traffic.
  • Residents vs visitors and catchment: show tenants who lives nearby, who travels in and how far they come.
  • Monthly PDF location reports: give owners and leasing teams KPIs, weekday patterns, dwell time and a foot traffic density map for each center.

What is mall analytics?

Mall analytics is the measurement of how a shopping center performs: visits, peak periods, where shoppers travel from, how long they stay and how the center compares with competing centers. Owners, asset managers and leasing teams use it to price space, attract tenants and report performance.

Huq works at the center level. Pick your center from the shopping center layer on the Explore map and see weekly visits, residents versus visitors, catchment and drive time, dwell time and visit frequency. Cross-visitation shows how many visitors you share with competing centers or key tenants nearby. Benchmark centers of the same type across a portfolio in Projects. More than 1,000 locations are manually validated in each of Huq's 35 markets twice a year.

Huq does not replace in-mall sensors. Corridor flow and store-by-store capture inside the building need counters on site. Huq covers the view those sensors can't: the market around your center.

What's in your mall analytics report

01

Weekly center visits

Total visits to your center each week, with peak days and times for events and holiday periods.

02

Where shoppers come from

Catchment and drive time for your center, plus the split between local residents and visitors, ready for tenant pitches.

03

Dwell time and visit frequency

How long shoppers stay and how often they return, compared with competing centers.

04

Cross-visitation between centers

How many visitors you share with rival centers or key tenants nearby, for up to 10 location pairs at once.

What a mall analytics report shows

A sample comparing one shopping center with a competing center nearby, the format of your free analysis. Monthly PDF location reports give the same view for every center.

Weekly visits: your center vs a competing center

01

Weekly visits: your center vs a competing center

Two centers on one chart. Use it to show how your center holds up through holiday peaks and quieter months.

Trade area overlap between the two centers

02

Trade area overlap between the two centers

Where each center's shoppers come from, and where the catchments overlap. The overlap is where the two centers compete hardest.

Cross-visitation: shared vs unique visitors

03

Cross-visitation: shared vs unique visitors

The share of visitors who go to both centers versus one only. A high unique share is strong evidence in a leasing pitch.

Frequently asked questions

Who provides mall foot traffic data and reporting?

Two kinds of provider. In-mall sensor and counter vendors install hardware to measure entrances, corridors and zones inside the building. External foot traffic providers, including Huq, measure visits to the whole center from outside, with nothing to install. That means you can track competing centers too, with weekly visits, residents versus visitors, catchment, dwell time and cross-visitation.

How do you track mall foot traffic?

Inside the building, counters at entrances and sensors in corridors track flow. To track the center as a whole and compare it with rivals, use external data. Huq measures any US address, so you can put your center and competing centers on the same charts: weekly visits, dwell time, visit frequency and where shoppers come from.

How do you optimize tenant mix in a mall?

Start with who already visits. Catchment shows where your shoppers come from, and cross-visitation shows which nearby stores and centers they also visit. Brand locations and industry performance show which categories are growing nearby. Strong overlap with a brand's stores suggests its customers already come to you. Combine that with your leasing team's knowledge of rents and space.

What do I get in the free analysis?

Name your center and one competing center. We send back a short comparison: weekly visits for both, where each center's shoppers come from and how much the trade areas overlap, plus dwell time and visit frequency.

How often is mall foot traffic data updated?

Huq data updates weekly. That lets you see the effect of an event, a new anchor or a holiday period within weeks, and compare your portfolio of centers on the same schedule.

Which US malls and shopping centers does Huq cover?

Huq measures visits to any address across the US, including enclosed malls, open-air centers, outlet centers and power centers. There is nothing to install, so you can analyze centers you don't own. Huq operates in 35 markets and manually validates more than 1,000 locations in each twice a year.
