Foot traffic is the number of people who visit a physical location over a period of time, and it's one of the clearest signals of how a store is performing. Huq measures visits to any US address, including competitors' stores and sites you haven't opened, by week, month and year, with no sensors or cameras. More than 1,000 locations are manually validated in each of Huq's 35 markets twice a year. Start with a free analysis.

This overview tours the Huq platform. Watch how you draw an area or pick a store on the Explore map, then read its visits by week, month and year, visiting vs passing traffic and busiest times. You'll also see heat maps of where people concentrate, and the monthly PDF reports you can share with your team.

Foot traffic, also called footfall, is the flow of people visiting a physical location, such as a store, restaurant, shopping center or main street. It's usually counted as visits over a set period, such as a week or a month.
For retailers, visit counts show demand before a lease is signed and performance after a store opens. Comparing sites shows which stores struggle because of where they are, and which because of how they're run. It also tells you whether a market is growing or shrinking before sales reports catch up.
Visit data now goes well beyond counts. Huq shows visiting vs passing traffic, where visitors come from, how long they stay, how often they return, when they come and how they arrive. Because it needs no hardware, you can measure competitors and prospective sites the same way as your own stores.

Foot traffic is the number of people who visit a physical location, such as a store or shopping center, over a period. UK and European businesses call it footfall; they mean the same thing. Retailers track it to judge demand at a site, compare stores and see how they stack up against nearby competitors.
Stores often use door counters or cameras, which only work at sites they operate. Huq estimates visits to any address without hardware and validates the results against known figures. In Huq's own validation study, its visit data tracked Walmart's quarterly US net sales with 0.85 correlation and 3.8% error. Many retailers use counters and Huq side by side.
Because Huq needs no sensors or cameras, you can measure any address, including competitors' stores. Pick the store on the Explore map and compare visits, visiting vs passing traffic, dwell time and where visitors come from. Export the results, or take the data as Parquet or CSV feeds into Amazon S3 or Google Cloud Storage.
Weekly. Weekly data smooths out one-off spikes, so you see trends build rather than noise. It's also frequent enough to track store openings, closures, promotions and seasonal shifts across a whole portfolio.
Send us a US address, yours or a competitor's. We'll show weekly visits with year-over-year comparison, busiest hours and days, where visitors come from, and dwell time and visit frequency. It's free, with no commitment.
Huq does, for malls, shopping centers, stores and other addresses across the US, one of its 35 markets. Landlords and retailers can benchmark a center against competing centers of the same type on visits, dwell time and where visitors come from, and share monthly PDF reports. No sensors or cameras are needed.
