Huq platform overview video: a visitor heat map

The video is a general Huq overview, not a white space demo. Watch the Explore map. You can draw any area or turn on catchment, travel-time, brand-location and industry layers. With weekly footfall, these layers help you judge whether a mid-sized German city, or a first site in Austria or Switzerland, is a real gap.

  • Turn on brand locations to see which cities you, and your competitors, already serve.
  • Draw travel-time catchments around a candidate city centre or shopping centre.
  • Compare weekly footfall trends between shopping streets in different cities.

What does white space analysis mean for DACH retailers?

White space analysis finds places where demand for your stores exists but your brand is absent. White space mapping shows those gaps on a map, so expansion teams can compare them.

German retail is not centred on one dominant city. Demand is spread across many regional and mid-sized cities, each with its own shopping streets and pedestrian zones. Many brands are present in the largest cities but missing in the next tier. Austria and Switzerland add a second question: does a German format work in Vienna, Graz, Zurich or Basel, and where should the first stores go?

Huq's White Space Analysis tool works with the Explore map layers for footfall, catchment, brand locations and industries. For German cities, Huq's published MAPE is 13.5% against landlord-reported footfall.

01

Next-tier cities on one map

Brand location layers show where you and similar brands trade. Mid-sized cities with strong footfall and no store of yours stand out.

03

Catchment check before you commit

Check each candidate's catchment against your nearest stores, so a new city adds shoppers instead of moving them from an existing store.
