Cross shopping is the share of your customers who also visit another store, brand or shopping centre. Huq measures it as cross-visitation: pick up to 10 location pairs and see how many visitors they have in common, then use brand analysis to compare whole chains. Use it to choose co-tenants, plan promotions with partner brands, and see which competitors your customers also use, anywhere in Australia and New Zealand.

Huq platform overview video: a visitor heat map

Huq's platform overview isn't a cross shopping demo, but it shows the parts you will use. Notice how you pick locations on the Explore map, how a partner or rival chain's stores show up through the brand locations layer, and how Projects keep a group of stores together. Cross-visitation then compares shared visitors between the locations you choose.

  • Pick any two locations, yours or a competitor's, and measure their shared visitors.
  • Use the brand locations layer to see where a partner or rival chain trades.
  • Group stores into Projects to compare shared audiences across your network.

What is cross shopping?

Cross shopping describes customers who split their visits between more than one store or brand. A shopper who uses two supermarket chains in the same week, or visits a regional shopping centre and a nearby large-format retail centre, is cross shopping.

In Australia and New Zealand, where centre landlords and national chains trade side by side, the overlap between audiences matters to three groups: retailers deciding where to open and which brands to sit beside, landlords planning tenant mix, and marketing teams looking for partner brands.

Huq measures cross shopping as cross-visitation. You select up to 10 location pairs and see the share of visitors they have in common. Brand analysis lets you look at chains rather than single stores. Because Huq works on any address, competitors' stores can sit in the same analysis as yours.
