Human mobility data describes how populations move between places. Huq turns it into weekly, aggregated metrics for US locations: foot traffic, visitor origin and drive time, dwell time, visit frequency, footfall density and transportation mode. Use them in the Huq platform or as Parquet and CSV data feeds. Huq manually validates more than 1,000 locations in each of its 35 markets twice a year. Huq platform overview video: a visitor heat map

The overview walks through the Huq platform: the Explore map, the metrics each area returns, Projects and exports. For human mobility data, look at the travel-time and catchment layers, the density heat maps and the behavior metrics, then note that the same metrics can be delivered as data feeds. Analysts often start in the platform to test locations, then move to feeds for their models.

  • Data feeds: Parquet and CSV files delivered into your Amazon S3 or Google Cloud Storage bucket, with schemas that match platform exports.
  • Density and transportation mode: show where movement concentrates and how people travel to each location.
  • Cross-visitation and catchment: show how visitors move between locations and where they travel from.

What is human mobility data?

Human mobility data is aggregated, anonymous data on how populations move between places: which places people visit, how often, for how long and where they travel from. It describes patterns across many people, not the movements of any individual.

Researchers use it to study commuting, tourism, disease spread and how cities recover from shocks. Businesses use it to choose sites, size trade areas, track competitors, forecast demand and add an alternative data signal to investment models. Public sector and transport teams use it to plan services and measure the impact of interventions.

It differs from foot traffic data mainly in scope. Mobility data covers movement between places across a region, while foot traffic data focuses on visits to a specific location. Huq delivers it as metrics for the places you choose, including density and transportation mode, through the platform or as data feeds rather than an API.

What's in your human mobility data analysis

01

Weekly foot traffic

Weekly visit estimates for each location, with history for trend and year-over-year analysis.

02

Visitor origin

The areas visitors travel from, mapped as primary and secondary catchment for each location.

03

Dwell time and visit frequency

How long visitors stay and how often they return, for each location and week.

04

Density and transportation mode

Where foot traffic concentrates within an area and how people arrive, for each location and period.

What a human mobility data analysis shows

A sample analysis for a set of locations. The same metrics are available as Parquet and CSV data feeds, with schemas that match the platform exports.

Frequently asked questions

What is mobility data?

Mobility data is aggregated, anonymous data on how populations move between places: which places people visit, how often, for how long and where they travel from. It describes patterns across many people, not individuals. Foot traffic data is the narrower view of visits to one location. Huq reports visits to the places you choose, plus where those visitors come from.

How do you use mobility data?

Businesses use it for site selection, trade area sizing, competitor tracking, demand forecasting and nowcasting company performance for investment research. Public sector and research teams use it to plan transport and services, study tourism and measure recovery after disruption. Start with a question about specific places, then test the data against figures you already trust.

How is Huq's mobility data delivered?

Three ways: the Huq platform, with the Explore map and Projects; CSV and Excel exports and monthly PDF location reports; or data feeds, with Parquet and CSV files delivered into your Amazon S3 or Google Cloud Storage bucket. Huq delivers feeds rather than an API. Feed schemas match platform exports, so data drops into Power BI, Tableau, Looker or your own models.

Can I test Huq's data for free?

Yes, with a free analysis. Pick a set of US locations and we send weekly visits, visitor origin, dwell time, visit frequency and density, so you can check the data against figures you already hold before committing to anything.

How often is the data updated?

Weekly. Each new week is added to the history, so models and dashboards stay current and you can compare any week with the same week last year without waiting for a quarterly release.

Which US locations does Huq cover?

Huq covers addresses across the US and works in 35 markets worldwide, manually validating more than 1,000 locations in each market twice a year, so teams can analyze US and international locations on the same basis. No sensors or hardware are needed, which means competitor sites can be measured as easily as your own.
