Choosing between foot traffic data providers comes down to a few questions: how accurate is the data, which locations does it cover, how often does it update, and how does it reach your team? More than 1,000 locations are manually validated in each of Huq's 35 markets twice a year. Data updates weekly for any US address, including competitors' sites, through the Huq platform, exports, PDF reports and data feeds. Test us on a site you know.

Huq platform overview video: a visitor heat map

This overview shows the Huq platform end to end. As you watch, check it against the questions you'd ask any provider: what data you get for a location, how easy it is to find, and how it reaches your team. You'll see the Explore map, Projects for monitoring many sites, and the exports and reports that come out of them.

  • Explore map: draw any area or pick a brand location and see footfall, catchment and behavior metrics together.
  • Projects: monitor a whole portfolio or competitor set in one place, with status tracking for each location.
  • Delivery: CSV and Excel exports, monthly PDF reports, or Parquet and CSV feeds into S3 or Google Cloud Storage.

What do foot traffic data providers do?

A foot traffic data provider estimates how many people visit physical locations, such as stores, restaurants and shopping centers, and supplies that data as dashboards, reports or files. Unlike door counters, which need hardware at sites you operate, providers can measure any address, including competitors' locations.

When you compare providers, check five things: how the data is validated, coverage of the locations you care about, update cadence, delivery options, and the range of data beyond visit counts.

Huq is built to give you the broadest set of location data across 35 markets: footfall, residents vs visitors, catchment and drive time, dwell and frequency, density, and brands and industries. More than 1,000 locations are manually validated in each of Huq's 35 markets twice a year. In Huq's own validation study, its visit data tracked Walmart's quarterly US net sales with 0.85 correlation and 3.8% error.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best source of foot traffic data?

Ask every provider how its data is validated. Huq manually validates more than 1,000 locations in each of its 35 markets twice a year. In its own study, Huq visit data tracked Walmart's quarterly US net sales with 0.85 correlation and 3.8% error. The best test is a site where you already know the numbers.

What's the difference between foot traffic software and door counters?

Door counters use sensors or cameras at your entrances, so they only measure sites you operate. Foot traffic data providers like Huq need no hardware and measure any address, including competitors' stores and locations you're considering but haven't opened.

How do I get foot traffic data?

Most providers offer a dashboard, reports and some form of bulk delivery. Huq offers a self-serve platform with the Explore map, Projects, CSV and Excel exports and monthly PDF reports, plus data feeds: Parquet and CSV files delivered into your Amazon S3 or Google Cloud Storage bucket. Demographics and spend are available in selected markets.

How often is Huq foot traffic data updated?

Huq foot traffic data updates weekly. Weekly data smooths out one-off spikes, so you see trends build rather than noise, and it's frequent enough to track openings, closures and seasonal shifts across a portfolio.

What's in the free foot traffic data analysis?

Pick a US location where you already have counts or sales. We'll show weekly visits, where visitors come from, dwell time and how it compares with nearby competitors, so you can test Huq's accuracy on your own terms before committing.

Who provides US foot traffic benchmarking data?

Several providers do, and coverage varies, so check it against your own locations. Huq measures any address across the US and benchmarks it against nearby competitors, similar sites and regional and national trends. Huq covers 35 markets, so you can compare US and international sites in one platform.
