Huq is our product. Here's how we compared everyone, including us.
Placer.ai is a US foot traffic dashboard. It estimates visits to places from a mobile location panel and sells a dashboard, data feeds and a marketplace of partner datasets, covering the United States only.
Teams look at Placer.ai alternatives for a few reasons. Pricing isn't published. Some users want more openness about methodology, or note that sites with fewer than 50 unique devices are hidden. Others need coverage outside the US.
The alternatives fall into groups. Huq is the self-serve location intelligence platform for retail expansion and site selection, retail real estate and investors, and local governments, councils and BIDs, across 35 markets with accuracy published by market. Advan, Unacast and pass_by sell raw data and feeds for data teams to model. Azira packages location data for marketing campaigns. MyTraffic is a footfall dashboard focused on Europe. Esri Business Analyst is a GIS toolkit, and Audiense (formerly Buxton) is a site scoring firm that pairs software with consulting. Huq wrote this list and ranks itself first. Sources for every fact are listed at the end of the page.

In this guide

Placer.ai covers the US only. Huq covers 35 markets, the US included, measured the same way. Huq is the self-serve location intelligence platform built for three groups: retail brands choosing where to open, from global chains to teams with five stores; retail and commercial real estate landlords, owners, asset managers, investors and private equity assessing retail brands and assets; and local governments, city councils and business improvement districts (BIDs) tracking economic development and regeneration. Teams answer their own questions in the Explore map, Projects and portfolio dashboards, with no consultant or GIS team needed.
Accuracy comes first. Huq manually validates more than 1,000 locations in each of its 35 markets twice a year and publishes accuracy by country as MAPE against landlord-reported footfall: 19.5% across published markets, where under 30% is considered healthy. One uniform method runs across every market, including the US, so sites compare directly across borders, and data refreshes weekly.
For any candidate site, competitor or town center, you get footfall by week, month and year (total and average foot traffic, trends, period-on-period change, visiting versus passing traffic), residents versus visitors, and catchment, at ZIP code level in the US, with drive-time and travel-time analysis. Behavior covers visit frequency, dwell time, time of day, cross-visitation with your existing stores and international visitation for tourism. Footfall density, transportation mode, POIs, brand locations and brand analysis, industry performance and shopping center and retail center types show what surrounds a site, and White Space Analysis maps pedestrian flow across city grids. Demographics (age, gender, purchasing power) are available in selected markets, and geo-spend by volume and category in the UK.
Local governments and BIDs use the same measures to check whether policies, events and interventions are working, benchmarked against comparable places. Projects tracks shortlisted sites from not started to closed. Results go to committees, boards and landlords as CSV or Excel exports and monthly PDF location reports, or to data teams as Parquet and CSV feeds into Amazon S3 or Google Cloud Storage.
Clients include the global insights, research and location intelligence teams at Nike, Adidas, JD Sports and Samsung, among 300+ organizations, and Huq's NPS is 42. JD Sports reported 25% more precise catchment analysis and 18% lower new-store location risk using Huq. In the UK, Ripon BID uses Huq and saw footfall up 164% year on year.
Pros
Cons

Advan Research is an alternative-data company that sells raw datasets to analyst teams, combining mobile location data with credit and debit card transactions. Weekly Patterns+ gives POI-level visit counts for the US and Canada with history from January 2018, Neighborhood Patterns+ works at census block group level, and SpendView covers US consumer spend. Data is delivered by FTP, AWS S3 and Google Cloud, and visits are mapped to stock tickers for investment research. It is built mainly for analyst and quant teams.
Pros
Cons

Unacast is a location data vendor that sells mobility data, US foot traffic datasets and data linkages to adtech, software and product teams. Visitation datasets cover weekly, monthly and quarterly foot traffic, trade areas and cross-visitation, with US history from October 2018, through analytics APIs or bulk delivery into a warehouse or S3. Foot traffic covers the US; the global offer is raw mobility data. In January 2025 the FTC finalized an order restricting how Gravy Analytics, now its subsidiary, handles sensitive location data.
Pros
Cons

pass_by is a London-based retail market intelligence company whose US visit data covers branded retail points of interest, mapped to brands, retail categories and stock tickers. Visit counts are aggregated at POI level with history from January 2019, and are delivered mainly as feeds into S3, Snowflake, BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage and other warehouses, alongside its Almanac platform. Its US data centers on branded retail, so independent stores and non-retail locations may be thinner.
Pros
Cons

Azira, formerly Near, is a location data and marketing platform for marketers. It builds audience segments from visitation and purchase behavior, runs media across mobile, CTV, audio and DOOH, and measures incremental foot traffic from campaigns, with analytics and custom data feeds alongside. Solutions are supported in 44 countries. It is built around marketing and campaign measurement as much as site analysis, and its data refresh and granularity aren't stated publicly.
Pros
Cons

MyTraffic is a Paris-founded footfall dashboard, combined with Geoblink, with an AI assistant called Gini plus DataLibrary, AudienceLabs and SmartMonitor. It lists 18 countries, most of them in Europe, and its US availability is listed for three states: New York, Texas and Massachusetts. Consultants can advise on studies. Refresh cadence and granularity aren't published, and its accuracy claims are the vendor's own.
Pros
Cons

ArcGIS Business Analyst is a GIS toolkit from Esri that combines demographic, business, lifestyle, spending and census data with map analysis, down to census block group. It shows who lives around a site rather than who visits it. It lists no foot traffic dataset of its own, and its traffic counts come from Kalibrate and measure vehicles. Many online operations use credits, and comparison sites note a steep learning curve for users without GIS skills.
Pros
Cons

Audiense In-Person is the location product of Buxton, a US customer analytics and site selection firm now operating under the Audiense name. It folds foot traffic trends into site scoring, trade area analysis, customer profiling and franchise territory planning through the SCOUT web platform, and the software is paired with analytics services. It has 36 healthcare industry models. Coverage is the US only, and foot traffic refresh and granularity aren't stated publicly.
Pros
Cons
Placer.ai covers the US only. If you also trade or invest abroad, one provider measured the same way in every market saves reconciling datasets. Huq uses one method across 35 markets, including the US.
Raw data and feeds suit teams with data engineers who will model the data themselves. If your team wants answers without building tooling, choose a self-serve platform. Huq offers both: the platform for commercial teams, and Parquet and CSV feeds for data teams.
Ask for validation against known figures, such as landlord-reported footfall, and test vendors on a site where you know the numbers. Huq publishes accuracy by country as MAPE: 19.5% across published markets, where under 30% is considered healthy.
Check minimum-visit thresholds. Placer.ai hides locations with fewer than 50 unique devices.
Placer.ai is a US foot traffic analytics platform used by more than 4,000 customers in retail, commercial real estate, local government, CPG and finance. It estimates visits to places from a mobile location panel and sells a dashboard, an API, data feeds and a marketplace of partner datasets. Its FAQ describes coverage of the United States only.
Placer.ai doesn't publish prices. Its pricing page describes custom subscriptions with unlimited dashboard access and a Customer Success service. There is no free trial of the full product, but Placer.ai offers a freemium version. Third-party estimates vary widely, so ask sales for a quote that covers the markets and seats you need.
Placer.ai competitors for US foot traffic include Advan Research, Unacast, pass_by and Huq. Azira and MyTraffic cover several countries. Esri ArcGIS Business Analyst and Audiense (formerly Buxton) compete on site selection, though G2's own alternatives list leans toward general BI and mapping tools.
Huq suits retail chains, retail property and investors. It is built for breadth across 35 markets: footfall by week, month and year, residents vs visitors, catchment, drive time, frequency, dwell, dayparts, cross-visitation, tourism, density, transport mode, POIs, brands, industries, plus demographics and spend in selected markets, delivered in a platform or as S3/GCS data feeds. Advan suits hedge funds, Unacast data teams, pass_by US brand benchmarking and Esri demographic analysis.
Placer.ai's FAQ says it uses a panel of tens of millions of devices, sourced from carefully vetted, often exclusive mobile data providers. Machine learning extrapolates that panel to estimate visits to places, chains, markets and regions. Locations with fewer than 50 unique devices are not shown.
Placer.ai (Placer Labs Inc.) is a venture-backed company founded in 2018. TechCrunch reported in August 2024 that it raised $75M from existing investors at a valuation near $1.5B, and that it has more than 50 investors, including WndrCo and Fifth Wall.
