High street footfall shows how many people visit your town centre, when they come and where they come from. Huq measures it for any UK high street, every week, without counters or cameras. Councils, BIDs and place teams use it to track recovery, judge events and markets, and make the case for funding. In Huq's Ripon BID case, footfall was up 164% year on year.

The overview is a tour of the whole platform. A council or BID should look closely at the Explore map: that is where you draw your own town centre boundary, side streets included, rather than rely on a few counter points. Then think about the monthly PDF location report, which is what most BIDs would share with levy payers and councillors.

High street footfall is the number of people visiting a town centre or shopping street over a set period. It is the measure most councils, Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and town centre managers use to judge how a place is doing, and it often sits behind funding bids, levy renewals and planning decisions.
Traditional counts come from fixed counters at a few points on the street. They are useful, but they only see the spot where they are installed, and they say little about who visitors are or where they come from. Huq measures footfall across any area you draw, so you can cover the whole centre, side streets included, and compare it with competing towns. That lets a council test whether a regeneration scheme is working: footfall and dwell before and after, against similar towns.
Huq also shows residents vs visitors, dwell time, time of day, catchment by postcode and demographics, so you can see whether an event brought new people in or just moved existing visits around.

National monitors give an average picture for all high streets. Huq gives footfall for your own town centre, or any UK high street you choose, refreshed weekly. You can draw the boundary yourself, compare it with other towns, and export the figures as CSV or Excel for council and BID reports.
Many towns use fixed counters at a few points on the street. Huq needs no hardware: it measures footfall across any area you define. Huq checks its estimates against landlord-reported footfall and publishes accuracy by country, with an 18.7% median error in Great Britain. The full validation report is available to download.
Yes. BIDs use year-on-year trends, event uplift and catchment to show levy payers what has changed. Ripon BID saw footfall up 164% year on year. Monthly PDF location reports give board-ready summaries of KPIs, trends against regional and national benchmarks, dwell time and dayparts.
Compare the event weeks with the same weeks last year and with the weeks either side. Huq shows residents vs visitors and catchment, so you can tell whether the event brought in new visitors. At Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, footfall rose 28% over the 2024 MLB weekend.
Huq's data refreshes weekly. You can view footfall by week, month or year, track period-on-period change, and set up Projects to monitor several town centres at once, with status tracking and reports for stakeholders such as councillors and BID boards.
