Retail foot traffic analytics from Huq measures your UK stores the same way as the rest of your estate. Huq tracks weekly foot traffic at any UK address without sensors, using one uniform dataset across 35 markets. That suits retailers with UK stores alongside stores in Europe, the US or elsewhere, who want UK trends, centre types and catchments in one consistent view rather than a separate local tool.

Retail foot traffic analytics, step by step

Huq platform overview video: a visitor heat map

The overview tours the platform as a whole. If your foot traffic tools come from other markets, notice how the Explore map handles UK geography: shopping centres, retail centres and postcodes are layers, and catchment is by postcode rather than ZIP code. Then look at Projects, which is where stores from several countries would sit together.

  • UK shopping centre and retail centre layers
  • Postcode catchments for each store

What is retail foot traffic analytics?

Retail foot traffic analytics is the analysis of store and area visits to judge retail performance. In the UK the same thing is usually called footfall; the measures are the same. Teams use it to benchmark stores, size the effect of competitor openings and track how retail destinations are trending.

For a retailer with stores in several countries, the hard part is consistency. Different providers in different markets mean different definitions, so a UK store can't be compared fairly with a German or US one. Huq uses one method and one platform across its 35 markets, and publishes accuracy by country: an 18.7% MAPE in Great Britain against landlord-reported counts.

In the UK, foot traffic analysis also needs local context. High streets, shopping centres and retail parks behave differently, so Huq lets you compare each store with the right type of centre.

Frequently asked questions

What is retail traffic analytics?

Retail traffic analytics measures and compares visits to stores and retail areas. Retailers use it to benchmark stores, explain sales changes, track competitor openings and choose new sites. Huq covers any UK address and refreshes its data weekly, so you can track trends without installing counters in your stores.

Can I compare UK stores with stores in other countries?

Yes. Huq uses one method across its 35 markets, so a UK store and a store elsewhere are measured the same way. Accuracy is published by country, with an 18.7% median error in Great Britain and a 19.5% median across published markets, against a 30% healthy threshold.

Is foot traffic the same as footfall?

Yes. Foot traffic is the US term and footfall the UK one; both mean the number of people visiting or passing a place. Huq reports the same measures in every market, so a UK store's footfall and a US store's foot traffic can be compared directly.

How is catchment shown for UK stores?

UK catchment is shown by postcode, with drive-time and travel-time analysis in miles. You can see where each store's visitors live, where catchments overlap between stores, and how a competitor's catchment compares with yours.

How often is the data updated, and what does it cover?

Data refreshes weekly, with views by week, month and year. Huq covers any address in the UK, including high streets, shopping centres, retail parks and competitors' stores, plus 34 other markets.

What does the free portfolio analysis include?

Share some or all of your UK stores through the form on this page, with stores from other markets if you like. Huq's team runs a free analysis on the same measures across them and walks you through which stores are gaining or losing visits.
